Où s’arrête le corps, et où commence l’eau ?

À l’occasion de la parution en France de Your Body of Water de Siouxzi Connor (Repeater Books, Londres), l’autrice proposera une lecture d’extraits choisis parmi les épisodes les plus marquants de ce récit autofictionnel. Des rives d’une rivière australienne dont s’éprend une adolescente à une rencontre avec le cygne de Léda dans l’univers nocturne des clubs berlinois, en passant par une relation de plus en plus troublante avec une mystérieuse matriarche des marais durant le confinement à Lisbonne, Your Body of Water explore les zones où le réel, le mythe et le désir se confondent.

La lecture sera suivie d’une conversation avec l’éditeur de l’ouvrage, Christopher DeVeau, autour de l’effacement des frontières entre autofiction et mythe, de la porosité du corps humain face aux mondes « plus-qu’humains » et du pouvoir de la littérature à rendre perceptible la complexité — souvent contradictoire — de l’identité. Le public sera ensuite invité à participer à un échange avec l’autrice et à découvrir une fragrance créée spécialement pour l’occasion, inspirée des paysages sensoriels et imaginaires du livre.

Where does the body end and a body of water begin?

Celebrating the book launch in France of “Your Body of Water” by Siouxzi Connor (Repeater Books, London), the author will give a live reading from some of the autofictional book’s most diverse chapters: from a teenager in Australia falling in love with a river, to an encounter with Leda’s swan in Berlin’s club scene, to an increasingly bizarre entanglement with an ageless, swampy matriarch during Lisbon’s COVID lockdown.

It will be followed by a lively discussion with the book’s editor Christopher DeVeau, on blurring the boundaries between autofiction and myth, the porosity of the human body with more-than-human worlds and the potential for literature to expose the complexity and often contradictory nature of the “self”. The audience will also have the chance to jump in with questions and to experience the custom-made scent based on the book’s narrative worlds.
